According the Australian Bureau of Statistics figures released today, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Australia decreased by 0.2% to 5.5%. Employment increased by 42,000 as full-time employment increased by 52,000 and part time employment decreased by just over 10,000. Unemployment decreased 18,600 to 711,900 and the number of unemployed persons looking for full-time work decreased 23,000 to 489,300 with the number of unemployed persons only looking for part time-time work increasing 4,400 to 222,700. Participation rates increased slighly upwards and the monthly hours worked in all jobs increased by 1.87% as well. State by State the largest increase in employment was in New South Wales followed by Victoria and Queensland.The largest month on month decreases in seasonally adjusted unemployment rates were in SA and WA both by 0.4%.
