The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased by 0.8% in November, taking the state to a rate of 6.5% for November 2018. The monthly rate also increased in Tasmania (5.8%), Queensland (6.4%) and Victoria (4.6%).
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rates decreased in New South Wales (4.4%) and South Australia (5.3%).
Unemployment rate, States and Territories
The national unemployment rate decreased less than 0.1%, taking Australia’s unemployment rate to 5.1%. The employment to population rate remained steady at 62.3%. Over the last year, trend employment increased by 2.4%; 0.4% above the average annual growth rate over the last 20 years.
