Our monthly update on People and Jobs…..
Unemployment: February 2025 rates Unemployment rates remain steady on a national and state basis at 4.1% and 3.4% respectively, seasonally adjusted. That said, most indicators trend downwards with the number of jobs, number of people participating and the number of people employed all deceasing compared to January. Both full time and part time jobs decreased for the period as well.
Jobs: The number of advertisements on Seek seem to have stabilised however are still lower by 11% year on year. The worst performing sectors remain IT&T and Accounting while the Health and Legal sectors are still up on the previous year. Trades advertisements have bounced, and the number of positions advertised in the last month have increased again.
Q&A: The 4-day working week has popped up again on the news channels – not sure why as we rarely come across clients in the SME sector that provide such an arrangement. In fact, speaking to a owner of a related recruitment business who have offered a 9-day fortnight, they regretted the arrangement and described it as a “nightmare”. Productivity is down and “it is a headache making arrangements around the day off”.
